According to the Mississippi Valley State athletic director Hakim McClellan is stepping down from his current role to become the Deputy Athletic Director at Jackson State, saying it “was time.”
The move to JSU is a return to familiar grounds for McClellan, where he previously worked as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
McClellan assumed the role of Athletic Director on June 6, 2022.
In his time as Athletic Director, the field at Rice-Tottem was replaced with FieldTurf and the venue also received a new Jumbotron. Additional upgrades included updates /upgrades to the weight room, and resurfacing the tennis courts, while the baseball/softball pavilion received a roof overhang, open bays for ventilation, and chainlink panels with vinyl baseball windscreen. He also charged the MVSU Office of Communications and Marketing to design a new athletic logo, which was unveiled at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the aforementioned new Jumbotron.
Dr. Briggs said of McClellan, “AD McClellan has done an exceptional job of keeping MVSU moving forward, and working alongside him has been an honor. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. When you love MVSU as he does, MVSU will always love you back.”
Dr. Briggs announced that current head basketball coach George Ivory will serve as the interim athletic director.
